People-File: Tell Me Something True documents more than 300 encounters gathered over a decade of street casting by Gabrielle Lawrence’s casting agency, People-File.

Since founding the agency in 2016, Gabrielle has been instrumental in shaping the rise of street casting in fashion and advertising, bringing undiscovered faces and authenticity to the forefront while expanding her practice into narrative and documentary filmmaking.

Using a simple set of questions and word association, Gabrielle documents the people she meets with her iPhone and film camera, creating an intimate study of vulnerability, identity, and human connection.

At the centre of the work is a long-running interest in perception and self-making. Gabrielle moved more than 18 times before the age of 16, and that constant relocation became an education in reinvention. On how quickly a sense of self can shift depending on place and circumstance.

Gabrielle’s recent work also documents her family in Australia through movement and music, capturing tender moments. An experience that has been both emotional and healing.

Originally from a small coastal town in Australia, Gabrielle now lives between London and Los Angeles, working across fashion, film, and documentary. She is currently developing her first feature documentary while studying Jungian Psychology. People-File is represented by Mini Title.
